2020Itx19simpossibletovisitJanetBromleyx19shomeandnotseetheinfluenceoftheartsallaroundher.Thewallsareadornedwithpaintingsbybothofhergrandmothersoneofhersonsandotherrelatives.Chairsdisplayhand-paintedpillowsagiftfromanotherson.Thecolorfulroom-sizePersianrugistheoneshegrewupwithinherfamilyhome.HerlivingroomboastsapianoabowedpsalteryandaCelticharp.PeekingoutfrombehindthepianoisawoodenmusicstandmadebyJanetx19sunclewhenhewasinjuniorhighschool.AsJanetsaysx1ctheartswerepartofmylifefromearlyonx13theywereallaroundmeallthetime.x1dFromhermotherx19sbeautifulsingingvoicetoherunclex19spianoplayingJanetgrewupsurroundedbyartandmusicandshedevelopedadeepappreciationforboth.ButitwastheviolinsoloistwhoregularlyplayedatherchurchwhoreallycaughtJanetx19sattentionandshestartedstudyingandplayingviolinatage10.Atabout15yearsofageJanetbegantakinglessonsfromRaymondSchoeweconductoroftheHuntingtonSymphonyOrchestraHSO.ShewentontostudyMusicEducationatOberlinCollegeandhadherfirstexperienceatanartmuseumwhilethereJanettookapaintingclassthatmetattheAllenArtMuseum.Itwastherethatshex1cfellinlovewithBreughelsx1dandJanetbeganmakingapointofvisitingmuseums.HerrelationshipwithHMAbeganwhensheencouragedherhusbandtocasthisvoteattheElksClubinfavorofpavingtheroadtothenewHuntingtonGalleries.JanetenrolledinHMAx19sfirstclassforamateurpaintersnotingshex1cwantedtoseeifshehadanyofthefamilyarttalent.x1dJanetx19sactiveinvolvementintheregionx19sartscommunityiswellknownshewasinstrumentalintheformationoftheHuntingtonChamberOrchestraHCOandwhenshesawthatthegroupneededavenueforperformanceshewasintegralinforgingtherelationshipbetweentheChamberOrchestraandtheMuseum.AsaresulttheHCOhaditshomeatHMAformanyyears.JanethasplayedprincipalsecondviolinfortheHuntingtonSymphonyOrchestraformanyyearsincludingperformingwiththeHSOattheopeningoftheMuseumx19snewGropiusadditionin1970.TheconnectionsshehadwiththeHuntingtonSymphonyOrchestraandtheMuseumpositionedJanetperfectlytoworkwithCabellCountyMusicSupervisorElinorCopenhaverwhowantedtodevelopaprogramthatintegratedmultipleartformsforareaelementaryschoolstudents.AfterrecruitingfellowmusiciansHarrietTuckerPatriciaGreenandJeanDavidsonandareadancersincludingEllaHayandinvolvingHMAx19swell-traineddocentsandhighqualityexhibitionstheOnLineprogramwasbornattheMuseum.Beginningin1974thishour-longimmersionintolivemusicanddanceandvisualartwasunlikeanythingthathadbeenpresentedintheregionbefore.Forthenext35yearsJanetensuredthatthisprogramcontinuedshecontractedthemusiciansandthedancersmetwithHMAstaffandCabellCountyBoardofEducationpersonnelforannualprogramplanningandsecuredfundingfortheprogram.OhyesshealsoperformedinOnLineforeachofthose35yearswhichmeansthatJanetpersonallybroughtanengagingmeaningfulartsexperiencetoliterallythousandsoffourth-gradestudentsformorethanthreedecades.HMAExecutiveDirectorMargaretMaryLaynerecallshavingheardthetaleoftheveryfirstOnLineperformancetheschooloriginallyscheduledtocometoHMAfortheprogramhadtocancelduetorampantfluamongthestudentbody.NotonetoletthatgetinthewayofpresentingartstochildrenJanetandthenHuntingtonGalleriesDirectorRobertaEmersoncalledParkHillsElementaryaschooljustafewdoorsdownfromtheMuseum.Theyconvincedtheprincipalthataterrificopportunityhadarisenfortheirstudentsx13theprincipalagreed.ThechildrenputtheircoatsonandwalkedovertotheGalleriesbecomingthefirstgrouptoenjoytheOnLineprogram.AlthoughJanetretiredfromtheprogramin2008HMAcontinuestopresentthistourintegratingmusicdanceandvisualarttoeveryfourth-gradestudentinCabellCounty.ThisdeterminationtocreateartsexperiencesandlearningopportunitiesforchildrenhasbeenahallmarkofJanetx19spresenceinourcommunity.JustlastyearshewashonoredbytheTEAMforWestVirginiaChildrenthisorganizationrecognizedJanetfortheeffortsshehasmadetobringmusictoareaschoolchildrenformorethan40years.JanetengagedtheLincolnBrassgroupmorethan20yearsagotoparticipateintheEFFORTEducationForFutureOrchestra-RelatedTraditionsProgramthisgroupbringslivemusicalperformancetoareaschools.Janetcontinuestocoordinatetheseperformancesensuringthatthesemusiciansperforminareaschoolsatleasttwiceyearlyanddoingherparttomakesurethemusicaltraditionsshesolovesaresupportedwellintothefuture.JanetplaysintheMarshallUniversityOrchestraandshecontinuestoplayfortheHuntingtonSymphonyOrchestra.FormanyyearsshemadeticketsavailableforchildrentoattendHSOconcertsattheMuseum.HereatHMAJanetx19simpactistrulyfar-reaching.SheisaPresidentx19sClubLifetimeMemberandamemberofHMAx19sEndowmentCircle.SheisanHonoraryMemberoftheMuseumx19sBoardofTrusteesandhasservedontheEducationandLandscapingMemberProfleJanetBromleyJanetBromleyrightperformswhileOnLinestudentslisten.
