“Portfolio 2017” Student Art Exhibition Opens With Reception on April 15 AT HMA

Portfolio 2017 Presented by Marshall University College of Arts and Media will be on view at the Huntington Museum of Art from April 15 through May 14, 2017.

Highlighting 199 pieces of artwork by middle and high school students from West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio, Portfolio 2017 Presented by Marshall University College of Arts and Media honors the young artists during a public reception on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Huntington Museum of Art.

Admission to the opening reception and awards ceremony is free.

Melissa Yungbluth, Gallery Director of Marshall University's Visual Arts Center and The Birke Gallery, is the judge of this year's exhibit.

"This exhibit of work by high school and middle school students is extremely popular and we're looking forward to another successful opening reception this year," said Geoffrey K. Fleming, HMA Executive Director.

High school students from the following counties are participating in this year's exhibit: Boone, Cabell, Mason, Putnam and Wayne in West Virginia; Boyd and Greenup in Kentucky; and Lawrence in Ohio.

Middle school students from the following counties are participating in this year's exhibit: Boone, Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, Mingo and Putnam in West Virginia; Greenup in Kentucky; and Lawrence in Ohio.

Portfolio 2017 is presented by the Marshall University College of Arts and Media. This program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.

HMA hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. General admission is $5 per adult. Admission to HMA is free on Tuesdays in 2017 thanks to the sponsorship of Macy's. Admission to HMA is also free to children younger than 18; Museum Members; veterans and their immediate families; and active duty military personnel and their immediate families.
