During its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on April 10, 2017, the Huntington Museum of Art named Sarah Denman HMA's 2017 Volunteer of the Year.

"From stuffing envelopes to helping raise funds for the Open Door Membership Campaign to serving on the Board of Trustees, Sarah Denman brings a positive energy to everything that she does to make the Huntington Museum of Art a stronger institution and helps us meet our mission to promote art, education and nature," said Carol Bailey, HMA's Development Director. "She's fun to be around and is an inspiration to others. Perhaps most importantly, Sarah is a wonderful ambassador, promoting the Museum wherever she goes and to everyone she comes in contact with."

Denman has been a member of HMA for decades and served as a weekend docent for many years offering tours to HMA visitors. She began serving on HMA's Board of Trustees in 2004 and currently chairs the Nominating Committee in addition to serving on the Board's Executive Committee. She was president of HMA's Board of Trustees in 2014 and 2015. Her Board duties have included chairing the Education Committee and the Open Door Membership Campaign Committee.

She has worked on many HMA Museum Balls and supported silent auctions for the event in addition to helping set tables and clean up after the fundraiser. She has also served on HMA's Women's Advisory Council and she and her husband, Bill, have been members of HMA's Fitzpatrick Society.
