A MUSEUM DOCENT

Q: What is a docent?

A: A docent is a volunteer who leads tours of the museum for groups of adults and students.

 

Q: Would I enjoy being a docent?

A: If you are enthusiastic about learning and want to share your enthusiasm with others, then the answer is yes.

 

Q: How would I learn to lead tours?

A: Docents are equipped with a thorough training in touring techniques as well as art to help visitors understand and enjoy the works on view in the museum.  It is not necessary to have a background in art.

 

Q: What are the obligations of a museum docent?

A: Docents are required to attend scheduled training sessions and give tours on a regular basis.

 

Q: Are there any benefits to being a docent?

A: If you enjoy learning you will benefit from lectures and presentations as part of your training.  As a docent you will benefit from being part of the museum family.
