The works in the Museum’s holdings date from 206 BC-AD 220 to early 20th century. Most of the objects in the collection are from Japan and China, and include:
- porcelain, earthenware
- small scale bronzes
- carved ivory
- Peking glass
- jade, carved jewelry pieces, vessels
- basketry
- bamboo items (including canes)
- costume (kimono, shoes, robes, obi, presentation cloths)
- snuff bottles, inro, netsuke, tobacco box
- paintings
- woodcuts
In 2001, Mr. William Warner Jones Endowment for Asian Art was established to be used for the acquisition of Asian objects for the permanent collection, Asian-related exhibitions, or Asian-related programs at the Huntington Museum of Art.
